About TEYS
Why we exist
Our purpose relates to
strata apartments – managing them and investing in them.
People have been living in apartments since Roman times.
However, the strata concept of dividing apartment buildings into
separate lots for individual ownership and sharing common property
only began in Australia in the early sixties.
Since then, the
popularity of strata titled apartments has grown to the extent that
they comprise one third of Sydney’s dwellings, one quarter of
Melbourne’s and almost one fifth of Brisbane’s. In these
cities, and indeed throughout the rest of Australia and the world,
the strata apartment market is set for unprecedented growth.
This is due to a variety of factors affecting our society,
including:
- low housing affordability;
- ageing of our population;
- shrinking household formations;
- environmental issues arising from urban sprawl; and
- migration of those more used to living in apartments.
As more people choose to
live, work and holiday in strata titled apartments, the management
of the collective body of owners, formed to administer the common
property, becomes complicated. The management of the owners
of strata titled apartments involves a knowledge legal, financial
and property related issues but above all, it requires an
understanding of, and ability to manage, people.
